Can We Eat To Starve Cancer?

What Is Angiogenesis?

Angiogenesis is the development of new blood vessels, that form from pre-existing vessels, allowing the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the body’s tissues. This process involves the migration, expansion, and differentiation of endothelial cells. It is a vital function, needed for growth and development as well as the healing of injuries.

But it also plays an important role in the formation of cancer because, like any other body part, tumors need a blood supply to thrive and grow. But it is abnormal angiogenesis that causes the issue.

The pharmaceutical industry has come up with some drugs and isolates like synthetic resveratrol to try and produce what nature has already perfected. Resveratrol is a polyphenolic compound naturally found in apples, plums, peanuts, grapesred wine, and some berries like blueberries.

What Are Anti-Angiogenic Foods?

As we will see below, there are many foods rich in antioxidants and anti-cancer properties that may not only help stop angiogenesis but may also prevent cancerous tumors from ever developing at all.

In his TED talk, Dr. William Li, founder of the Angiogenesis Foundation, explains that certain foods can turn off the switch to cancer.
